“CHANCE” IMPROVES, HAS SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE AFTER SURGERY FOR GUNSHOT WOUND

$3,000 reward offered for information leading to arrest of shooter

February 23, 2012 (Alpine) – A dog found shot and abandoned in Alpine is improving after surgery, ECM news partner 10 News reports. Named “Chance” by veterinary staff, the golden retriever mix is no longer on oxygen or an IV; Chance is eating and drinking on his own and may soon be available for adoption.

Found on Viejas Grade Road with a gunshot that punctured his lung, Chance was initially listed in extremely guarded condition. It is unknown where the shooting occurred.

His owner saw her dog on TV and identified him at the VCA Emergency Animal Hospital in Mission Valley Tuesday, but has relinquished ownership to the County. The San Diego County Animal Services Spirit fund is accepting donations to cover the high cost of Chance’s medical care.  To donate, visit http://www.sddac.com/donations.asp.

The person who shot Chance has not yet been found, but may face felony charges if located.

 

Anyone with information on the identity and or location of the persons responsible for this crime should call San Diego County Animal Services at 619-236-2341 or theCrime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477.CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case. San Diego Animal Advocates is offering an additional reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.   Anonymous email and text messages can be sent in via www.sdcrimestoppers.com.

 

For information leading to an arrest, you could receive up to a $3,000 reward and remain anonymous.  The qualification of any person(s) for the reward and the amount of the reward for any person(s) so qualifying will be determined by San Diego County Crime Stoppers, Inc, and the San Diego Animal Advocates.  The amount of all rewards given shall not exceed $1,000 from San Diego County Crime Stoppers and $2,000 from San Diego Animal Advocates.

 The dog was seen running loose near Viejas Casino for a couple of weeks before the shooting, a Sheriff’s official told ECM.
