Lakeside: Where the West is Still Alive

April 24, 2014 (Lakeside)-- Join the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce for the 49th Annual Lakeside Western Days Parade on Saturday, April 26 at 9:35 a.m. along Woodside and Maine Avenue. This year’s parade theme is Lakeside: Where the West is Still Alive and celebrates the Lakeside Rodeo’s 50th anniversary. For more information about the parade or the Chamber, visit www.lakesidechamber.org.

This year’s parade Grand Marshal is the El Capitan Stadium Association for 50 years of organizing the Lakeside rodeo.  The Association selected long-time volunteer Don Hickle to be its representative in the parade.  Hickle has been an active member of the Lakeside community for the past 38 years. He began in 1976 by joining Toyon 4-H, the El Capitan Stadium/Lakeside Rodeo Association and the Lakeside Optimist Club. He continues to be an active member in both the Optimist and Stadium Association groups today. Some of his other achievements include Scout Master of Lakeside's Troop 45 and four years as president of the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce. He was recently awarded "2013 Good Scout of the Year" by the Boy Scouts of America, San Diego-Imperial Council.

“The Chamber is thrilled to be hosting its 49th Annual Western Days Parade,” said Kathy Kassel, executive director, Lakeside Chamber of Commerce. “And we are honored to celebrate the Lakeside Rodeo’s 50th anniversary! The West is truly still alive in Lakeside and I hope that everyone will join us for this wonderful, fun, family-friendly tradition of the Western Days Parade.”

The parade will be filled with a wide variety of antique and classic cars, bands and entertainment from local schools, floats representing local businesses and organizations, clowns and of course – cowboys and cowgirls!

“Grab your lawn chair, a water bottle and your cowboy hat, find a location on Woodside or Maine Avenue and enjoy the sights and sounds of Lakeside.  Get there early for best viewing spots!” added Kassel.

The 49th Annual Lakeside Western Days Parade is sponsored by Patriot General Engineering, SDG&E, Sentry Property Management Corp and Hertz Insurance Agency, Inc. The Chamber anticipates a large crowd at the parade.  Streets surrounding the parade route will be closed one hour prior to the start of the parade.
