5 FIRES BURNING ALONG HIGHWAY 67 IN LAKESIDE AREA -- HIGHWAY SHUT DOWN

1 p.m. update:  ECM publisher Mark Hanson, whose home overlooks the San Vicente Reservoir, says the fire appears to be out in his area following air drops on the blaze.  The U.S. Forest Service has also been called in to assist, Incident Page Network reports.

 

12:40 p.m. update from Lakeside Fire Chief Andy Parr: “We had a number of small fires that have pretty much burned into one, about 30 acres. It’s burning in a westerly directly towards Lake San Vicente. We’re slowing it down with aircraft and helicopters and air tankers; we have resources both coming and on scene. Lakeside is in unified command with Cal-Fire.” Wind is blowing westerly at about 5 mph., he estimated.

 

May 28, 2010 (Lakeside) 12:15 p.m. – Five separate fires are burning along Highway 67, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Nick Schuler has informed East County Magazine. Highway 67 has been shut down and structures are threatened.

 

Schuler did not have specifics on all locations however an ECM source monitoring emergency radio frequencies reports a blaze 2.7 miles north of Slaughterhouse Canyon and additional fire at San Vicente Reservoir. The Mapleview area is also affected.
