November 20, 2014 (Alpine) – Concerned about senior citizens who are alone over the holidays in convalescent homes, an East County businesswoman has started an “Adopt a Grandparent” program.

Sallie Kay Brown, a Mary Kay Cosmetics senior director and Alpine Mountain Empire Chamber of Commerce member, has been helping to provide for lonely and less fortunate seniors in our region for the past four years.  You can help by donating $25, which will be used to fill a Christmas stocking with hand lotion, foot cream, socks, a teddy bear and candy.

Brown says, “I am doubling my efforts this year to include two convalescent homes instead of one so my goal is 250 gifts.  Please consider participating this year to bring some cheer to older folks whose own families have forgotten them or are simply too busy to visit. It is quite typical for no family members to attend these convalescent home Christmas parties.”

Besides donations, you can also personally participate and sing some Christmas carols to brighten the holidays for local seniors.

To participate, you can contact Sallie Kay Brown at (619)669-6554 or email SallieKay@MaryKay.com.
