ANZA FIRE CHARS 487 ACRES

Update 5 p.m: This fire is holding at 50% and the same acreage reported this morning, according to the Riverside Fire Department. Highway 74 is now reopened.

The blaze started yesterday afternoon with a mobile home fire. The brush fire is in Riverside County near Highways 74 and 371, but smoke is visible in parts of northeast San Diego County and Imperial County.

The forward spread of the fire has been halted, Cal Fire reports, though earlier reports predicted the fire had a potential to reach 1,000 acres. Residents are urged to shelter in place as an evacuation center has been closed as of this morning.
