By Miriam Raftery April 1, 2009 (San Diego's East County)--Aloha! Viejas teams up with El Cajon to host a brand new festival on Saturday, April 4. The new "It's 5'clock Somewhere Party" includes transformation of a downtown warehouse into an inland "beach" paradise complete with tiki bar, Hawaiian food and music by Shipwrecked, a Jimmy Buffet-style band. Also this weekend, community members are invited to turn out for a Community Mural Project and "River Blitz," both hosted by the San Diego River Park Foundation. Need a laugh? On Saturday night, TV comics team up in Lemon Grove for a rib-tickling Comedy Extravaganza Comedians Show.

Yee-ha! Lakeside hosts its Western Day Parade and Rodeo on the 25th, while the Poway Street Fair is April 19. Also this month, you can participate in an Eco-Build event for fire survivors and anyone interested in remodeling to go green. Or learn how to be a farmer at a "Get Your Hands Dirty" in Escondido. Other distinctive classes offered this month include a free self-defense class, archaeology lecture in El Cajon, and a wildflower hike in Anza-Borrego. Other highlights include Jazz Night at the Spring Valley Library, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in La Mesa, an animal show in Spring Valley, and an art reception in La Mesa.
