December 21, 2012 (La Mesa) - A man wearing a Santa cap entered the Murray Lake Liquor Store in La Mesa today not bearing gifts nor seeking holiday cheer. Instead, he pulled a gun and ordered the clerk to handover cash from the register at 3:15 p.m. today.

According to witnesses, the suspect also wore a black jacket, shorts, and a black bandana.  After stealing the cash, the man in the Santa cap departed the store at 5395 Lake Murray Boulevard not in a sleigh, but in a dark grey Mazda-6 heading north.

While en route to the call, La Mesa Police officers spotted the suspect driving the vehicle in the 5000 block of Baltimore Drive. With help from the San Diego Police ABLE helicopter, officer stopped the vehicle and took the not-so-jolly suspect into custody. The gun used in the robbery and the stolen cash were both recovered.

The suspect, Bertho Gauthier, 23, from San Diego, was arrested and booked into County Jail, charged with robbery and use of a firearm during commission of a felony.
