79TH DISTRICT BACK TO SCHOOL BACKPACK AND SUPPLY GIVEAWAY

August 27, 2020 (San Diego) – Assemblymember Shirley Weber will host the 8th Annual 79th District Back to School Backpack and Supply Giveaway. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this will be a drive-thru event held on Saturday August 29, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m in the parking lot at Second Chance, 6145 Imperial Ave., San Diego, CA 92114.
 
This year, instead of physically attending school, some children will be at home learning virtually as the Coronavirus pandemic continues.
 
“Our goal as a community is to make sure our future leaders are prepared academically and have the right tools to succeed,” says Dr. Weber.

August 21, 2019 (San Diego) - California will soon have a tougher new legal standard for the use of deadly force by police, under legislation Gov. Gavin Newsom signed today that was inspired by last year’s fatal shooting of a young, unarmed man in Sacramento.

GOVERNOR SIGNS WEBER BILL TO HELP HUNGRY STUDENTS

July 25, 2017 (San Diego) -- “Twenty-four percent of CSU students experience hunger and nearly 20 percent of University of California students do not have access to adequate food or nutrition,” says Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, Ph.D. (D-San Diego), an educator who has taught at San Diego State University.   Now Governor Jerry Brown has signed Assembly Bill 214 into law, a measure authored by Weber to help ease hunger among college students in California.

WEBER BILLS ADDRESS POLICE SHOOTINGS AND RACIAL PROFILING

 

April 15,2015 (San Diego)--Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, a San Diego Democrat and African-American, has introduced two bills aimed at stopping  racial profiling and bringing accountability to shootings by police.  The measures are sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU.

July 11, 2014 (San Diego and East County) – Assemblywoman Shirley Weber (D-San Diego), whose district includes several East County communities such as La Mesa, Mt. Helix and portions of El Cajon, will host a coffee with constituents this Saturday, July 12. The event will be held from 12-2 p.m. at the  Linda Vista branch library, 2160 Ulric Street in San Diego.
