April 10, 2016 (Denver) - It was a beautiful sunny Sunday in the Mile High City and Coloradans and San Diegans watching at home were treated to a nice, leisurely game of baseball.  Even though the Padres lost, the series finale between the Padres and Rockies was a lot more calm than the last two games of the series.  My typing hands are grateful.

Carlos Gonzalez started it off in the first by hitting a solo homer to left for a 1-0 Colorado lead.  Nolan Arenado followed it up with another solo homer to make the score 2-0 Rockies.

Adam Rosales took the placed of the injured Yangervis Solarte and doubled in the second off of Rockies starter Ched Bettis, driving in Melvin Upton, Jr. to cut the Rocks’ lead to one at 2-1.

In the third, the Padres tied it up with a sac fly by Wil Myers to drive home Jon Jay and it was 2-2.

It was a much more quiet game than the other two games in this series, but in the Rockies’ half of the fifth, Charlie Blackmon grounded to short.  The Pads got the force out at second, but Blackmon was safe at first and a run came home thanks to rookie Tony Wolters and the Rockies led again, 3-2.

In the home half of the seventh, Ryan Raburn crushed a solo homer to left (that left field was like midnight in a fairy tale in this game) and extended the Rockies’ lead to 4-2.

In the eighth, the Rockies made a pitching change and brought in Boone Logan.  The Padres got one back on a Cory Spangenberg one-out double and the score was 4-3 Rockies as Jabari Blash was waved home.  21-year-old Miguel Castro was brought in for Colorado and finished the inning without any more damage.

And in case you were going to say “But Trevor Story didn’t homer!” Say no more.  Brandon Mauer came in to pitch and that was a bad move by Andy Green because Story blasted it to left for his seventh home run in six games.  CarGo hit his second home run of the game and the score was 6-3 Rockies.

Solarte did not play; he was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of the pulled hamstring he suffered yesterday. Alexi Amarista has been called up from El Paso.  The Friars don’t get the sweep, but they win the series two games to one.  They head to The City of Brotherly Love next to start a four-game series against the Phillies, starting with Philadelphia's home opener tomorrow afternoon.  Andrew Cashner will be on the mound for San Diego, Aaron Nola for Philadelphia.
