Sixteen collegiate-best marks for Aztecs were recorded during the day

March 18, 2017 (San Diego/Irvine) - San Diego State track and field secured five individual event titles and tied the seventh-best mark in SDSU history with a win in the 4x100 relay on Saturday, competing at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Collegiate Invitational and the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Classic.

At the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Classic, the 4x100-meter relay team of Micha Auzenne, Simone Glenn, Rochene Smith and Starlynn Singleton completed the relay in 44.78 to win the event, recording the seventh-fastest mark in program history.

In Irvine, Calif., the Scarlet and Black also earned the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles, 400 meters and triple jump.

Sophomore Sierra Brabham-Lawrence won the 100-meter hurdles for the second consecutive meet and the fourth time in her career with a collegiate-best 13.58, while senior Madison Gipson took third (14.08). SDSU also placed first and third in the 400, as Glenn (54.39) and Andrenette Knight (55.48) both posted the top marks of their respective collegiate careers. Sophomore Je’Neal Ainsworth won the triple jump for the third time in her career with a 40-03.00 mark.

In the high jump, freshman Hannah Taylor placed second (5-04.75) and, making her collegiate debut in the event, Auzenne was third (5-02.75). Also earning top-three finishes were Monique McPherson in the 800 (second, 2:11.43), Singleton in the 200 (second, 24.59), Gipson in the 400-meter hurdles (third, 1:01.68), Lisa-Anne Barrow in the long jump (third, 19-03.00) and Rachel Alesi in the shot put (third, 47-08.25) and discus (third, 157-10.25).

At the Ross and Sharon Collegiate Invitational hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University, SDSU went 1-2-3 in the pole vault and secured gold in the javelin.

For the second straight meet, junior Bonnie Draxler won the pole vault (13-06.75) on her first attempt with sophomore Marissa Berry’s collegiate-high 13-06.75 mark on her second attempt placing her second. Sara Curran was third with a 12-05.00 mark.

Junior transfer Melody Harris matched her first individual event win as an Aztec last week (javelin) with another win in the javelin in Point Loma, throwing for 141-10.25.

Next weekend, San Diego State hosts the 39th Annual Aztec Invitational, welcoming teams to SDSU Sports Deck on Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25.
