March 25, 2017 (San Diego) - Junior Ashley Henderson ran the fastest 100-meter dash in the NCAA this season and in San Diego State history during the second day of the 39th annual Aztec Invitational Saturday.

Henderson’s 11.10 time surpassed Tonette Dyer’s 11.20 school-record time, set in 2004. Henderson’s time in the 100 was also the fastest recorded run in the NCAA this year. She previously ran the 100 at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 10.96 but because the time was wind-aided, it does not count as a school record.

Also finishing among the top five in the 100 was junior Rochene Smith (11.58) at third, running a collegiate best and tying for the ninth-fastest mark in program history, and senior Starlynn Singleton (11.70) at fifth.

SDSU also posted top-five marks in the 4x100-meter relay, 100 hurdles, 800, 400-meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, hammer, shot put, discus, javelin and pole vault.

Micha Auzenne, Simone Glenn, Singleton and Henderson earned silver in the 4x100, ranking third in the school record book with a 44.40 time.

The Scarlet and Black finished 3-4-5 in the 100-meter hurdles, with Auzenne finishing third (13.37), freshman Andrenette Knight narrowly placing fourth (13.561) and sophomore Sierra Brabham-Lawrence recording a collegiate-best 13.57 for fifth.

In the long jump, sophomore Lisa-Anne Barrow placed third (19-05.75), and Singleton surpassed her best mark as an Aztec with a 19-02.50 showing for fourth.

Senior Rachel Alesi was third in both the discus (166-7) and the shot put (49-5), while junior Melody Harris captured bronze in the javelin (141-2). Senior Freja Liljedahl placed fifth in the hammer throw (166-10).

Sophomore Je’Neal Ainsworth leaped to a 38-04.50 in the triple jump for third. Junior Monique McPherson ran the 800 in 2:10.36 for fourth, while classmate Jasmine Young placed fifth with a collegiate-best 1:02.89 in the 400-meter hurdles. In the high jump, freshman Hannah Taylor jumped 5-05.50, the best of her young collegiate career, to take fifth.

The Aztecs stay local next weekend, taking part in the California Collegiate Invitational hosted by UC San Diego on Saturday, April 1.
