October 22, 2016 (San Diego) - Aztec football continued Mountain West play tonight against San Jose State.  It was also their second Friday night game in a row.

Late in the first quarter, the Aztecs marched downfield and after a fourth down conversion, it was junior tight end David Wells who made a wide open catch in the end zone for the touchdown and the Aztecs jumped out to an early lead like they always do; 7-0 after the extra point.

In the second quarter, after a big catch by Rashaad Penny, he finished the job on first and goal with the outside run into the end zone and made the score 14-0 Aztecs after the extra point.  After a targeting penalty on senior running back Donnel Pumphrey, he got his revenge by tying Marshall Faulk for the most touchdowns in San Diego State history and gave SDSU a 21-0 lead after the extra point.  After redshirt sophomore Christian Chapman threw an interception, the Spartans got on the board with a field goal from sophomore Bryce Crawford and the Aztecs led 21-3 at the half.

In the second half, the Aztecs picked up where they left off.  Or rather, Penny picked up where he left off with his second touchdown run of the game to put the Aztecs up 28-3 after the PAT.

In the fourth, Pumphrey and Penny did the rest of the damage, Pumphrey with a 23-yard touchdown run to put the Aztecs up 35-3 and Penny with a whopping 73-yard run that was the cherry on top of a blowout 42-3 Aztecs win over the Spartans.

The Aztecs are back in action again next Friday night when they travel to Logan, Utah to take on Utah State.  Kickoff is at 5:00 p.m.
