June 2, 2017 (Long Beach) - Aztecs baseball traveled to Long Beach State tonight for the Long Beach Regional with the Dirtbags.  Senior Brett Seeburger started for the Aztecs against another senior, Dave Smith for the Dirtbags.

The Dirtbags challenged Seeburger early.  Junior Ramsey Romano, nicknamed “The Bus Driver,” hit a sac groundout in the first inning to score a run.  Junior Brock Lundquist singled on a line drive to left to score another run.  Junior Luke Rasmussen added another RBI on a single to left.  The Dirtbags hit back-to-back-to-back singles for five hits and came away with three runs in the first to take a 3-0 lead.

The Dirtbags didn't quit.  Junior Lucas Tancas singled to left to score another run in the second to give Long Beach the 4-0 lead.

SDSU couldn’t get anything going and in the sixth, Long Beach state sophomore Jarren Duran lined an RBI single to left that scored two and kicked Seeburger out of the game to be replaced by sophomore righty Harrison Pyatt.  Smith pitched a complete game, five-hit shutout as the Dirtbags win 6-0 and move on to face Texas tomorrow.  The Aztecs will play an elimination game tomorrow against UCLA, the loser of which goes home and the winner takes on the loser of Texas-Long Beach State.  First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
