May 11, 2016 (Chicago) - Just four hours after the morning game, the Pads and Cubs took Wrigley Field again for the final game of the doubleheader and of the series.  Drew Pomeranz took the mound for the Padres against another former Red Sox, John Lackey, for Chicago.

It was a pitchers’ duel until midway through the game when Christian Bethancourt hit a solo homer in the fifth inning and the Padres took a 1-0 lead.

You’d think a 1-0 lead wouldn’t be enough against the first-place Cubs, but the Padres proved everyone wrong and won the series two games to one and hand the now 25-8 Cubs their first series loss of the season.

The Friars head up north to Milwaukee for a weekend series against the Brewers starting tomorrow night at 5:10 p.m.

In transaction news, the Padres claimed catcher Hector Sanchez off of waivers from the Chicago White Sox.  Pitcher Robbie Erlin has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
