July 22, 2011 (San Diego) -- The America's Finest Beer Festival, slated to be held this weekend at Qualcomm Stadium, has been cancelled due to financial issues. Sponsored by the Rancho San Diego-Jamul Chamber of Commerce, the event was also to have benefitted the San Diego USO.

Chamber president Valerie Harrison, in an e-mail sent to media, said an unforeseen financial shortfall forced cancellation after key backers became "financially overextended at th last moment" and failed to provide funds needed to prepay for equipment including sound, lighting, and stage for bands.

The City required the event be cancelled if venue fees were not prepaid by Thursday at 5 p.m., she added.

Although VIP ticket sales were brisk, general ticket sales did not provide enough pre-event revenues to cover advance costs.  Competition from Comic-Con may also have impacted ticket sales.
