December 1, 2011, (Julian) -- The Pig and the Dragon, a fantasy novel by La Mesa author Cindy Schuricht, is available for purchase at Julianʼs Quilts Plus, 2125 Main St., Julian. Come meet Cindy, have her sign your copy, and have a cup of hot apple cider on Sat. Dec. 3 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Pig and the Dragon is an intergenerational fable that alternates between the parentʼs and the childʼs points of view. A discussion booklet suggests topics and questions for conversation.

Gwendolyn is a pig who adopts Strange One, a dragon she raises with her litter. Both Gwendolyn and Strange One have many lessons to learn. As a parent, Gwendolyn must teach skills that she doesnʼt have herself and muster more bravery for her children than she ever had to for herself. Strange One deals with sibling rivalry, developing his own values, and coping with a world for which he is only partially prepared. Ultimately, they must both learn how to let go with grace, hope, and love.

Julianʼs Quilts Plus offers quilts and many other fine handmade items. They carry vintage textiles including quilts and a new selection of table runners. The store also offers books by other local authors. Come and find a treasure.

The Pig and the Dragon, a delightfully original novel . . . a heart-warming story about family, friends, love and sacrifice. The characters are authentic and enduring as they each grow in their understanding of loyalty and letting go.

I highly recommend this book for older elementary children, young adolescents, and their parents.
