July 2, 2014 (El Cajon)--Micro-brewing is catching on around the nation, but if you don't have the means to visit microbreweries in other states, or even if fine local breweries just seem too far out of the way, head to The Downtown Cafe in the heart of downtown El Cajon.

Already boasting what I consider to be one of the best happy hours in East County, The Downtown Cafe also delivers a rotation of microbrews from around the country, that only a few establishments could hope to rival. There is also a full restaurant, and certain foods are offered at happy hour discounts.

There are many reasons to visit The Downtown Cafe outside of happy hour as well, the full menu is great and they offer live music entertainment with plenty of room for dancing. Some of the best cover bands in town can be seen here and the crowd is always lively. On Wednesday nights all summer long classic cars are parked up and down the strip, and The Downtown Cafe gets very busy.

For true beer enthusiasts, there are so many wonderful beers on tap here that I have to fully recommend ordering a flight sampler. It would be impossible to try and get the best experience any other way.

No matter the type of beer you prefer there is a good chance The Downtown Cafe has something for you. From light American lagers to dark nitro stouts and all sorts of IPAs and pale ales, they really have it covered. They also offer beer of the day specials, often featuring some of the best beers from top quality brewers at unbeatable prices.

Downtown El Cajon is a melting pot of different cultures. The beer culture is on full display at The Downtown Cafe.
