April 13, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)—Forget April showers.  An April snowstorm bearing heavy snows and wind gusts up to 70 mph will be blustering across our region Friday and Saturday, the National Weather Service forecasts.

Heavy snow and wind will impact Interstate 8 and Highway 78 in San Diego’s inland regions by Friday afternoon, with near zero visibility as snow levels dip to between 3,000 and 3,500 feet by Saturday morning.   Strong winds may create white-out conditions with gusts up to 70 mph on ridgelines.

If you enjoy sledding and snow play, wait for fair weather after the storm.  Travel in mountain areas will be dangerous Friday and Saturday; travelers should carry chains, food, a flashlight, cell phone and extra clothing.

Up to a foot of snow may accumulate at higher elevations, with several inches at 4,000 feet. Areas where snow is foreast include Boulevard, Cameron, Campo, Cuyamaca, Descanso, Julian, Lake Henshaw, Morena Village, Mount Laguna, Oak Grove, Pine Hills, Ranchita, Santa Ysabel and Warner Springs.
