March 29, 2016 (La Mesa) – A man with a syringe confronted a 17-year-old boy outside a taco shop on Parkway Drive in La Mesa at 3:30 this afternoon, threatening to stab him with an HIV-infected needle unless the teen drove him to an undetermined location.

The teen complied and drove around in his 2000 Ford Ranger, with the stranger as a passenger, for about half an hour. While stopped at a red light at Waring Road and Orcutt in San Diego, the teen saw the suspect reach for a syringe to shoot drugs and the boy leaped out of the vehicle, 10 News reports.

The boy ran to a convenience store for help, but the suspect took off in the teen’s truck.

La Mesa Police later spotted the vehicle and began a pursuit, which was picked up by the San Diego Police. Around 9:40 p.m., the suspect crashed the vehicle into medians at a construction zone in City Heights near University Avenue, KNSD reports.

The suspect was injured and transported to a hospital.
