April 20, 2017 (San Diego’s East County) -- If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community’s professional response, CERT members can assist others by applying the basic response and organizational skills that they learn during training.  These skills can help save and sustain lives following a disaster until professional help arrives.

The San Diego County Fire CERT – So. Division will be offering a Basic CERT Academy in May 2017.  The classes themselves are free and will be located at several locations throughout its jurisdictional area in rural communities. Participants must attend all three (3) days to graduate from the Academy.

The Basic CERT Academy (Schedule is Subject to Change):

May 6:  Saturday Disaster Preparedness 8:30am –  11:00am

(Jamul) Cert Organization 11:45am –  1:30pm

Terrorism and CERT 1:45pm – 4:30pm

May 13:  Saturday Fire Safety 8:30am – 11:00am

(Pine Valley) Search and Rescue 11:45am – 2:30pm

Disaster Psychology   2:45pm – 3:45pm

May 20:  Saturday Medical Operations (Part 1) 8:30am – 11:00am

(Boulevard) Medical Operations (Part 2) 11:45am – 2:45pm

Disaster Drill/Simulation 3:00pm – 4:00pm

Test and Graduation 4:15pm – 4:30pm

If you are a former SD Rural CERT Member, please join the Swearing-in Ceremony on the first day of classes and again at the Disaster Drill/ Simulation on the last day of the Academy.  You will need to be re-certified to be issued a new DSW card and to assist the SDCFA CERT – So. Division Team should we get activated by the Fire Chief in 2017.  Current CERT members are invited to join us for any or all of the classes as a refresher.

New SDCFA CERT – So. Division members are welcome to join this Academy as it continues to grow the program, engaging and preparing more members within the area.
