July 5, 2011 (Culver City) -- The California Citizens Redistricting Commission, in order to accommodate and incorporate greater public input, voted to move its release of second draft district maps to July 12th. The Commission is charged by voters to draw California Congressional, Legislative and Board of Equalization districts.
 

 

 

 

The Commission also took the following actions:

 

 

Voted that their technical experts, Q2 Data and Research, have the latitude to go up to 1% population deviation in state legislative districts to improve ability not to retrogress to comply with the Voting Rights Act (Section 5).*


Voted not to hold any public input hearings following the release of second draft maps on July 12th, but will encourage submission of public testimony by e-mail, mail and fax.


The Commission is currently seeking public input on its first round of draft maps released .  For more information on submitting public comment please go to wedrawthelines.ca.gov
