From drumming to mummy making, a treasure-trove of learning

June 29, 2012 (El Cajon) – Cuyamaca College is offering College for Kids July 9 – August 9 at 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway, El Cajon.  It is a summer enrichment program for children between the ages of 8-14 that will teach new and meaningful skills through participation in classes such as art, dance fitness, science, media and more.

Examples of the classes available follow:

Children’s Theatre Workshop allows students to learn and show off their basic acting and performing skills.  Activities include improvisation, singing, monologues, audition techniques and more.

Egyptian Mummy Making is a fun and stimulating way to learn about Egyptian culture and history through a studio art class that teaches about mummies, canoptic jars, sarcophagi and death masks by making them.

En Garde, Ready: Fence! Teaches students the techniques passed down through the generations of fencing masters.  Maestro Stuart Lee, certified by the British Academy of Fencing, will explore this ancient art in a fun and challenging way with the students.

Curious Culinary Kids is designed to teach children about cooking simple and healthy foods in a tasty way.  It will demonstrate a fun approach to cutting, heating and blending foods, mainly fresh herbs, ripe fruits and vegetables in a satisfying way.

Intro to Drumline explores different drumline instruments from Marching Snare to Mallets.  Students will learn basic rhythms, notation, appropriate technique and some cadences.

CSI: Forensic for Kids teaches how to think like a detective and use science to find answers.   The class will include hands-on labs such as fingerprinting, blood spatter, dental impressions, and more.

Half or full day scheduling is available and the price ranges from $80-$95 per week.  Class runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and/or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a supervised lunchtime for full day students.
