TEENAGERS IN LOVE: WEST HILLS HIGH'S ZOMBIE PROM

By Kathy Carpenter

Associate/youth reviewer www.sdtheatrereviews.com

November 16, 2016 (Santee) - On a deeper level, Zombie Prom is about change and acceptance. In the after show talk back, one of the actors commented not only had one student changed, but that she was proud of how much the entire cast had grown through the process of putting on the play. Growth through life experience as an actor and person--that's what high school drama is all about.

November 1, 2016 (La Mesa) - Kidz Danz Kompany presents “1968” at the San Diego Performing Arts Center (4579 Mission Gorge Place, San Diego, CA, 92120) on November 11th-12th, 2016 at 7pm.

Featuring the diverse and multi-cultural Kidz Danz Kompany, this concert reflects on the year 1968 and how it in many ways parallels 2016. Presented will be new works titled “Mama Said”, an homage to the dedication of single motherhood and its struggles, and “KDK/1968/2016”, the definitive work of the evening. Both works are choreographed by Artistic Director Spencer John Powell. These works incorporate music from 1968 and 2016 with some song selections from years in between that complement each work. With costuming by Debbie Sloan of Fusionglass Company, her unique and Avant-garde designs provide a modern visual to the works.

ESCAPE REALITY AND GO INTO THE WOODS WITH GROSSMONT HIGH: SHOW CONTIUNES OCTOBER 28-29 AT 7 P.M.

By Kathy Carpenter

Youth/Associte Reviewer

www.sdtheatrereviews.com

October 27, 2016 (La Mesa) - Please support your local high schools. These are the entertainers of the future. High school arts are the building blocks. There is nothing like a full audience to inspire confidence and help them give their best performances.

Into the Woods is a difficult play, especially the lyrical rhythmic songs. Although a play with a large cast is good for high school, I loved watching the cast of 19 come together and give their all to take  us on a journey of life messages. Four fairy tales (Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel) blend together to show us how the paths we take through life and the choices we make influence everything we do, and how we may have to return to the same place to learn the right lesson.

PICKWICK PLAYERS BRING HAPPINESS AS THEY PRESENT LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE SEPTEMBER 2-11

By Kathy Carpenter

Associate /Youth Reviewer www.sdtheatre.com

September 7, 2016  (Santee) - From the name LITTLE Mary Sunshine and the photo of the play I thought this play to be a Dudley Do-right type show, I was not disappointed. I found not as dastardly but a cutesy cartoony kind of happiness--the kind that puts a smile on your face as you enjoy the corny comedy. Teri Ang brought together a cast to spread the sunshine. This is a great way to end the summer—and the show even had a touch of patriotism, perfect for the Labor day weekend.
