September 25, 2015 (San Diego's East County) -- East County Magazine Editor Miriam Raftery was injured Wednesday when an F-150 pickup truck driver pulled out in front of her Toyota Camry on Avocado in El Cajon.  Raftery's vehicle was totaled and she was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

"I am grateful to be alive and appreciate the kind wishes sent by many in our community," said Raftery, who asked for patience as our staff works to catch up on a backload of articles, story ideas and e-mails recently submitted. "I also thank the El Cajon Police and Heartland Fire & Rescue for their prompt response to the accident scene," she added.

A report by the El Cajon Police Department concluded that the truck driver was at fault, which a witness confirmed.

Our editor suffered neck, chest, head and back pain from the crash, in which the airbags deployed.  She is also dealing with blurred vision in one eye but is hopeful of making a full recovery, but is taking some time out and handling only the most urgent matters while on the mend.

We regret to advise our readers that our October 25th "Hot issues: Wildfire & Water Forum" at the Water Conesrvation Garden at Cuyamaca College has been cancelled due to our editor's accident and injuries.  The forum was slated to feature Supervisor Dianne Jacob and County Fire Authority/Cal-Fire Chief Tony Mecham, among others, as well as a silent auction and opportunity drawings to benefit East County Magazine. We hope to reschedule this event in the future.

Our radio show this week will feature mostly "Best of East County" reruns to enable Miriam to stay home and rest, while giving our interns and volunteers an opportunity to prepare new radio materials for the following weeks.
