June 12, 2016 (Lakeside) - Billy Ortiz has created a beautiful and moving video of El Monte Valley in Lakeside, which is threatened by a proposed sand mining project.

“El Monte Valley has a wide variety of plants and animals. On any day you can hear the call of the coyote and the cry of a golden eagle, the hissing of a diamondback and the hoot of the great horned owl,” they write, noting that some species are protected by federal and state laws.  “Let’s not forget the aquifer protected by billions of tons of sand, water conservation is paramount compared to all other resources;  we cannot live without water; lets protect it!”

They add, “We cannot afford to turn our backs and allow anyone to ruin our last valley, when it's gone, it's gone! We don't get another chance. We must leave our children a legacy; We owe it to them for ignoring the earth’s cry for our help. We owe it to the wildlife, we cannot continue to plow them under and expect to recreate what is already created over millions of years and we MUST protect our water.  This is a place all San Diego can be proud of, a beautiful river trail from the blue Pacific to El Cajon Mt the Jewel of San Diego.  Together we are making a difference.”
