April 25, 2018 (El Cajon) – Valhalla High School students bid farvel (farewell) to the Viking Center, which was demolished yesterday. A new parking lot will replace the Viking Center, which has been vacant for several years, formerly housed special education and other programs that are now offered on the main campus in more modern facilities.

The demolition is part of a larger campus modernization plan as part of Proposition U and Measure BB. These two measures, along with the closed-out Proposition H, have funded or are funding:

  • the construction of a new Science Building
  • modernization of the main building (including 49 classroom)
  • upgraded chiller plant
  • extensive site work, ADA upgrades, and campus infrastructure improvements
  • New track and field

In addition to the Viking Center demo, remaining bond projects include a campus-wide security camera upgrade currently underway, and the restoration of the interim housing site, says Ursula Kroemer Leimbach, board communications outreach with the Grossmont Union High School District board.
