June 11, 2018 (Julian/San Diego) – The Julian Firefighter Association invites you to a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Saturday, June 16th at the Fire House Museum (1572 Columbia St.) in downtown San Diego’s Little Italy district.  Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. at an evening that honors Fire Captain Dave Southcott and other volunteers.

“Please bring the family and enjoy a fun night of good food, entertainment, and memories to share with your families,” the Julian-Community Fire Protection District states in an email.

The event promises food, fun, a silent auction, entertainment and access to the Fire House Museum.

The fundraiser is part of Julian community efforts to keep their fire department independent as the last all-volunteer department in the county. Although the fire board recently reverse its vote and has moved forward with consolidating into the County Fire Authority, many residents are trying to block that effort, voicing concerns over public safety and other issues.

Southcott, an outspoken critic of the takeover effort, was recently put on leave and escorted off the fire station property by a Sheriff deputy for speaking out.
