August 30, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) -- The Community Cleanup on Broken Bone Lane on August 27 was a wonderful success. Thank you to EDCO for providing the shipping containers for free. Thank you to The Real Estate Fire Safe Council who made this possible along with CERT and TEAME.

There was already a line of residents waiting with filled vehicles when the gate opened at 7:00 a.m. and it didn't take long for all seven of their biggest containers to fill. My first trip was at 10:30 a.m. and we tossed my stuff into the last container. When I went back an hour later I waited, along with others, for two other containers to arrive. Once they got there it was short work to fill them. Just before 1:00 p.m. when the event was over, they closed their final container. Nine total. Spirits were high as people were able to get rid of household green waste, electrical, yard waste/brush and more.

Don't feel like you've missed out. There are four more events coming up.

These three are sponsored by EDCO, the Real East County Fire Safe Council, CERT and TEAME.  Individuals (no businesses or contractors) can bring your green waste, trash, waste and brush for disposal from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. September 24: Campo Community Center

October 28: Old Boulevard Fire Station

November 19: Jacumba Community Park

In addition, the County is sponsoring a hazardous waste and electric waste cleanup event:

September 17: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Old Potrero Fire Station, 24550 State Route 94 in Potrero. View flyer for details.
