October 13, 2013 (Dehesa) – Uppdated October 15, 2013 -- A critically injured patient was freed from wreckage of a  high-speed, head-on crash in Dehesa and air-lifted to a hospital. The collision occurred at 8:13 a.m. at the junction of Dehesa Road  west of Sloane Canyon Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford Explorer driven by a 46-year-old man from Spring Valley crossed the center line while traveling eastbound and struck a Nissan Titan driven by a 21-year-old man from El Cajon.

“The driver of the Nissan had no time to react,” said CHP officer Kevin Pearlstein.

Lakeside Fire, Sycuan Fire, Cal Fire, San Miguel Fire  American Medical Response and an ALS medic unit responded to the scene, finding multiple injuries ranging from moderate to severe.    A crew from  Sycuan Fire was able to free the trapped victim with rescue tools.  The critically injured victim was transported by Mercy Air to a trauma center at Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Both drivers were transported to Sharp Memorial with major injuries; the Ford driver was taken by Mercy Air.

"This incident is another example how automatic-aid works to not only manage fire incidents but any incident that requires a coordinated effort,” Fire Captain Mark Grow with Lakeside Fire District posted on the District’s blog at http://lakesidefiredist.blogspot.com/

An investigation is ongoing to determine whether alcohol or drugs were suspected.
