CUYAMACA RANCHO STATE PARK PLAN CALLS FOR REMOVING 674 ACRES FROM WILDERNESS DESIGNATION

August 23, 2014 (Cuyamaca) – California State Parks is proposing to remove 672 acres of wilderness designation in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. (View map of proposed changes.) A preliminary general plan and draft environmental impact report (EIR) for the park is now available for public review.   The 45 day public review period opened August 21 and closes October 6, 2014.

At earlier public meetings, members of the public raised a variety of concerns including availability of horse camps , hiking trails and mountain biking opportunities, loss of biodiversity, post-fire bulldozing, reforestation, and more.

Updates and details are available on the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park General Plan Webpage http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=27169. All comments must be postmarked by standard mail or e-mailed by October 6, 2014. All comments received by the deadline will receive a written response to be published in the Final General Plan/EIR. A last opportunity for comment on the Preliminary General Plan/Draft EIR will occur at the time of the State Park and Recreation Commission meeting currently scheduled for November 14, 2014 in San Diego, CA. At this meeting the Commission will vote to approve the General Plan. Commission meeting information will be posted to the General Plan webpage by September 26, 2014.
