May 29, 2016 (Phoenix) - The Padres and Diamondbacks played game three, the final game of this weekend series today.  Drew Pomeranz started against Archie Bradley for the snakes.

The Diamondbacks started the scoring.  Phil Gosselin scored in the first and Arizona took a 1-0 lead.

In the second, the Padres tied it at one with a Christian Bethancourt single that scored Yangervis Solarte.

Arizona took the lead right back 2-1 with Chris Owings’ second home run in as many games in the DBacks’ half of the second.  Bradley singled and scored Chris Hermann and the DBacks went up 3-1.  Gosselin grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Nick Ahmed and the DBacks went up 4-1.  This is the first time that Pomeranz has allowed four earned runs in a game this season.  Paul Goldschmidt lined to right and drove in two on an RBI double and the snakes led 6-1.

In the fifth, Alexei Ramirez hit a solo homer, his first home run as a Padre, to cut Arizona’s lead to 6-2.

The Padres rallied a bit in the eighth with Wil Myers’ groundout that Brett Wallace scored on to cut the DBacks’ lead to three runs at 6-3.  But that was all they could manage.  The Diamondbacks take the series two games to one with a 6-3 win.

The Padres start a home-and-home series against the Seattle Mariners starting with a Memorial Day matinée tomorrow at 1:10 in Seattle.  Andrew Cashner will start for San Diego against Nathan Karns for Seattle.

In transaction news, Cesar Vargas is on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his right elbow.  The Padres have called up Leonel Campos from El Paso.
