March 23, 2017 (El Cajon) -- With the passage of Measure S, the City of El Cajon is in the implementation phase of establishing City Council districts.  The mapping criteria was approved by the City Council on February 14, 2017, and four community workshops were held in February and March.

The next important milestone is March 27, 2017, which is the first deadline for residents to submit district maps.  Maps submitted by this date will make the initial review by National Demographics Corporation, the City’s demographic consultant, and be included in the first set of district maps released to the public on April 3, 2017.  Maps submitted after March 27, will not be a part of the initial review process, but will still be accepted.

The City encourages everyone to submit a map! This can be done through online software or by printing out a map and drawing in districts. The online mapping tools can be found at www.cityofelcajon.us/District-Elections. To submit the hand-drawn map, please email or send a digital photograph to elcajondistricting@NDCresearch.com or turn them in at El Cajon City Hall.

Residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback and input on the draft district maps released to the public at the City’s next workshop on Tuesday, April 18.  The workshop will take place from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the El Cajon Police Station Community Room, 200 Civic Center Way.  Spanish and Arabic translation services will be available.
