DEADLY WEEK: 5 DIE ON EAST COUNTY ROADWAYS

February 28, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Motor vehicle accidents claimed the lives of five people in San Diego’s eastern regions during the past week, the San Diego County Coroner’s office reports.

Sarah Rachelle Phillips, 31, lost control when her vehicle struck a puddle on the I-805 connector to southbound I-15 on February 27. The vehicle left the road and rolled several times, ejecting Phillips, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A single woman, she resided in San Diego.
 

Deio Christopher Alcala, 38, of Fallbrook was struck and killed by a school bus on Oak Lane Drive while walking across the street in front of his girlfriend’s home on Oak Lane Drive on February 26. He was thrown in the air and paramedics were unable to revive him.
 

Vicky Selby, 57, of Ramona, was struck by a pickup truck as she attempted to cross State Route 67 in Escondido. Paramedics transported her to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with a head injury and subdural hematoma. She continued to decline and died on February 25.

Cary Floyd Conner, 43, had an argument with his girlfriend in a vehicle in which he was a passenger on February 23. He opened his door and exited the vehicle as it began moving. Moments later, a vehicle traveling behind them struck Conner, who was pronounced dead at the scene, at 1103 La Cresta Boulevard in the unincorporated area of El Cajon. Conner was an El Cajon resident.
 

Randy Fredrick Evans, 49, died February 21 when his vehicle rolled over on northbound State Route 67, north of Slaughterhouse Canyon Road in Lakeside. He sustained major head trauma and despite CPR performed at the scene, he could not be revived. Evans was married and resided with his family in North County.
