November 30, 2010 (La Mesa)--The next time that third grade teachers of the La Mesa Spring Valley School District need students to look something up in a dictionary – they can.  Thanks to the Rotary Club of La Mesa, all third-graders in the District now have dictionaries of their own to keep.

“Our goal is that students use them from year to year to support their education,” said Linda Hamilton, dictionary project chair for La Mesa Rotary. “The thank you notes we receive after delivering the dictionaries are precious. Students will often look up a new word and we love getting their notes.” She added, “Years later we will run into students and they proudly tell us that they still have them.”

This is the eighth year that the La Mesa Rotary Club has given away dictionaries. In partnership with the So Cal Dictionary Project and the Rancho San Diego/Spring Valley Rotary, La Mesa Rotary has given away over 12,000 dictionaries, including approximately 1800 to third grade students locally.
