November 10, 2015 (Santee) – A suspect who reportedly fled after a traffic stop in Santee later crashed and was ejected.  When he refused to cooperate with deputies after the accident, 41-year-old Anthony Ortega was tasered and arrested, said Sergeant Daniel Morsch.

According to Sgt. Morsch, the incident began at 3:20 p.m. when Deputy Mascarenas tried to stop the Kawasaki motorcycle at Mast Blvd. and Cuyamaca Street I Santee for an expired registration.  The motorcycle sped off and a short pursuit ensued.

The motorcycle crashed into the parking lot at Edgemoor Hospital at 655 Park Center Drive and the driver was ejected.  Oretega got up after the collision, but when deputies Mascarenas and Noah contacted him, Ortega “was not cooperative with their command and was combative,” Sgt. Morsch stated. “Ortega was sprayed with OC and a taser was depoloyed. The deputies were then able to subdue Ortega and place him in handcuffs.”

Ortega complained of pain and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital for examination. After he was medically cleared, he was charged with felony evading arrest, fighting law enforcement and having a suspended driver’s license.
