August 12, 2015 (San Diego’s East County)--This week’s Destination East County features dancing under the stars, a star party at a Julian winery and a rocking outdoor concert. Plus we’ll have a preview of coming attractions including a Native American pow-wow, Julian’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival, the Nudestock music festival, and Descanso’s Deep Pit BBQ. So stay tuned for all of these events and much, much more!

SUPPORTING CAST AT LAMPLIGHTERS IN LA MESA AUG. 14-SEPT. 13

Lamplighters Community Theatre continues its 78th season with “The Supporting Cast,” a comedy to be staged August 14 through September 13, when Ellen, the wife of a successful author, writes a sizzling novel her friends are thrilled — until she invites them to her Malibu beach house and reveals that they are the characters! TRES CABARET-STYLE DEBUT AUGUST 14 AT VISIONARY PERFORMANCE SPACE

Mounarath-Powell Productions presents the premier of a new girl group, Tres, at the Visionary Performance Space (7202 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego) on August 14th at 7 p.m. 

This cabaret-style production features three powerhouse vocalists: Nicole Isabelle, Calliope Marin, and Sophia Rogers. Listen to these young divas as they sing some of today's and yesterday's popular hits by artists such as Adele, Beyoncé, Tina Turner and many more.

NUDESTOCK: AUG. 14-16 AT DE ANZA SPRINGS

Here’s a unique way to beat the heat. The De Anza Springs Resort in Jacumba Hot Springs will present Nudestock ,  an annual outdoor music festival on August 14-16. No need for bellbottoms or love beads  at this music fest–since clothing is optional at De Anza Springs, located in the high desert region of San Diego’s East County.

JULIAN STAR FEST PARTY AUGUST 15

Julian hosts its annual Star Fest in mid-august with a public Star Fest Party on August 15th at the Menghini Winery from 7 to 10:30 p.m.  Telescopes and astronomy experts will be on hand. Bring a red flashlight or flashlight with red tape over it – please no white lights in the viewing area to distract from your astronomical viewing pleasure.

MUSIC, ART AND MORE AT HEART OF Mt. HELIX AUG. 15

The 8th annual Heart of Mt. Helix will be held on August 15th from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at the amphitheatre atop Mt. Helix. This festive event includes live music on two stages, dancing under the stars, and food samples from local restaurants, and artists creating works live.

NOW FOR A PREVIEW OF COMING ATTRACTIONS

"WINE AND BEER GARDEN" FOUNDATION FUNDRAISER FOR EAST COUNTY PROGRAMS AUG. 20

The East County Chamber of Commerce Foundation is hosting a first annual Wine & Beer Garden Fundraiser on Thursday, August 20 at The Water Conservation Garden (12122 W. Cuyamaca College Dr., El Cajon) from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

This premiere social event will help raise funds for some of the Foundation's flagship business development and education programs, including the Ethics in Business Program, the East County Business Incubator Program, East County Business Resource Center, Business College Student Scholarships, and much more. The event will feature several local restaurants, breweries and wineries, as well as Garden tours and a silent auction.

JULIAN FILM FESTIVAL AUGUST 21-22

The 4th annual Julian Film Festival will showcase environmental movies by up and coming filmmakers on August 21 and 22. This year’s theme, a Watershed Year, focuses on the Volcan Mountain Range and related waterways in San Diego County and Baja. SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT AT SANTEE LAKES AUG. 21

Smokey and the Bandit will be the featured outdoor film on Friday, August 21st at Santee Lakes.  Showtime starts at 6 p.m.  The film starring Burt Reynolds is rated PG-13 and this special showing will also include a beer garden.  There will also be a Burt Reynolds-style mustache contest with a prize.

ARSENIO HALL AT SYCUAN AUG. 27

BARONA POW-WOW SEPT. 4-6

The 45th annual Barona Pow-Wow will be held at the Barona reservation’s sports park  in Lakeside from Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6.  A grand procession will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday featuring representatives of all tribes participating. JULIAN GRAPE STOMP FESTA  SEPT. 5

Fall is harvest time at East County wineries across East County and on September 5th , the Julian Grape Stomp Festa will be held at Menghini Winery from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  There will be tons of grapes to stomp, plus wine-tasting from local wineries, food and craft vendors and more.  For tickets and details, visit www.JulianCA.com.

DESCANSO DEEP PIT BBQ SEPT. 6

The 78th annual deep pit barbecue in Descanso will be held on Sunday, September 6th, hosted by Our Lady of Light Parish church.  The preparation starts the night before, with the slow-cooking of seasoned beef using two cords of oak firewood. The Sunday BBQ and festival takes place starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday, also including crafts, games and vendor booths as well as prize drawings.
