March 24, 2014 (Bonita)--On Sunday, March 23, 2014, Sheriff's Deputies in the Bonita area responded to a report of a domestic assault, at 2900 Briarwood Road, in Bonita. James Kang , 29, allegedly assaulted his wife who escaped their apartment with injuries and called a friend for help.

When deputies arrived to conducted their investigation they established contact with the victim and determined a domestic abuse crime occurred. Deputies attempted to contact Kang who was uncooperative and told deputies he had tapped knives to the back of the front door so deputies could not enter his apartment.

Deputies established a perimeter around the apartment and began negotiations with Kang in an effort for Kang to surrender. Kang refused to surrender and displayed knives several times during the standoff. The Sheriff's Crisis Negotiations Team responded and continued negotiations with Kang for almost three hours.

The Sheriff's SWAT Team also responded in conjunction with the Crisis Negotiations Team and a short time later Kang surrendered to the SWAT Deputies. Kang was arrested for Felony Domestic Violence and booked into county jail.
