September 15, 2016 (Ramona) — A Ramona father who crashed his pick-up truck head-on into a car on Vista Ramona Road Monday afternoon near Old Julian Highway appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, said Officer Kevin Pearlstein with the California Highway Patrol.

The collision killed Racheal Guarneros-Callahan, 21, a Ramona resident who was driving a Nissan Altima. She was pronounced dead at the scene.  The crash also injured the two young children of the Ramona father, 50, whose identity has not been released.

According to Officer Pearlman, the man’s 5-year-old daughter was in a booster seat in the front passenger seat.  His 4-year-old son was in a car seat in back, but was not properly restrained and suffered major life-threatening injuries after he was thrown through the back window of the pickup, landing in the truck bed.

According to Pearlstein, the young boy was rushed to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, as was his 5-year-old sister, who suffered moderate injuries.  Their father also suffered major injuries including a broken back. He was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
