June 23, 2009 (Lakeside) -- “Today was a GREAT day for San Diego,” Laura Cyphert, co-founder of the East County Community Action Coalition (ECCAC) stated in an e-mail to the coalition’s members, which now number over 78,000, according to Cyphert. “Today the County Board of Supervisors voted 4:0 to take a position AGAINST the SDG&E ill-conceived shut off plan,” she said, adding that the vote might not have occurred without strong community involvement. “This is the win of a battle; and it shows we can win the war with continued persistent and strategic effort!”

The ECCAC has convened a community meeting for Wednesday, June 24th at 7 p.m. to discuss recent events, and upcoming events on issues ranging from the shut-off proposal to Sunrise Powerlink. Community members are invited to attend, ask questions and “find out where we are in our fight,” said Cyphert, adding that a regular schedule for upcoming meetings will soon be published. The meeting Wednesday will be held at Marechairos, 14120 Old Highway 80 (Lake Jenning) in Lakeside. For details and directions, visit http://www.marechiaros.net/.
