EAST COUNTY'S HEARTLAND SWIMMERS SCORE BIG AT U.S. WESTERN ZONE SWIM CHAMPIONSHIPS

August 17, 2010 (San Jose) – Three members of the East County's Heartland Swim Association earned medals at the prestigious U.S. Western Zone Age Group Championships held Aug. 10-14 at the Frank Fiscalini International Swim Center in San Jose.



14-year old Garrett Glaudini, 12-year old Michael Salazar, and 10-year old Ruby Carlon were the Heartland members chosen to represent San Diego-Imperial (SDI) Swimming Committee in competition against the fastest swimmers from 14 western states.



 

Glaudini, who competed in the 13-14 age group, repeated as the Western Zone champion of the 1,500 Meter Freestyle with a time of 16:52.06. He recorded fourth place finishes in the 200 Meter Freestyle (2:03:07), 400 Meter Individual Medley (4:56.68), and 400 Meter Freestyle (4:21.07). In addition, Glaudini finished fifth in the 800 Meter Freestyle (9:06.20) and sixth in the 200 Meter Individual Medley (2:21.73).

 

Salazar took the silver medal in the 11-12 age group’s 100 Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:05.40. He earned a bronze medal in the 50 Meter Butterfly (29.50) and recorded fifth places finishes in the 50 Meter Freestyle (28.57) and 200 Meter Individual Medley (2:32.87).

 

Carlon competed in the girl’s 10 and under division. She earned a sixth place medal in the 100 Meter Breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:33.70.
