May 5, 2017 (San Diego) - It wasn’t the prettiest series for the Padres against the Rockies, but they did manage to eek one game out of it.  Now the Dodgers are coming to town for a three-game weekend series.  In tonight’s game one, Kenta Maeda started for the Dodgers against Jhoulys Chacin.

Things stayed quiet until the fourth when Cody Bellinger homered to right to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

But Ryan Schimpf came through in the Padres’ half of the fourth with a double to right that scored Cory Spangenberg and the Padres tied the game at one.

The Padres did something rare (for them) in the fifth; they completed step two of “Tie the Game,” which is “Take the Lead.”  Manuel Margot hit a sac fly to center to score Erick Aybar and the Padres were up 2-1.

But thanks to Andrew Toles, the Dodgers were able to take the lead again in the seventh with a double that scored two and the Dodgers took the lead 3-2.

The Dodgers added on in the eighth with Chris Taylor’s single that scored Yasiel Puig and LA tooka 4-2 lead.

LA went wild in the ninth with Yasmani Grandal’s single that scored Corey Seager and the Dodgers were up 5-2.  Bellinger unleashed his second home run of the game, a three-run blast to center and LA took the first game of the series 8-2.

Game two is tomorrow at 5:40 p.m.  Clayton Kershaw starts for LA against Clayton Richard.
