June 6, 2017 (Phoenix) - The Rockies were struggling, but the Padres couldn’t beat them.  Now they’re in Arizona playing one of the best teams in the league.  Does the priest from San Diego State’s Newman Center who does Sunday masses for the Padres travel with the team?  We hope so.  Dinelson Lamet started game one against Robbie Ray for the Diamondbacks.

Lamet wasn’t so stellar this time around.  In the bottom of the first, Gregor Blanco doubled, Lamet hit Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb doubled and scored them both to give the Dbacks a 2-0 lead.

Lamb drove in two more in the second with a single.  Chris Owings blasted a three-run homer and the Dbacks were far, far out of reach, going up 7-0.

The Padres started to chip away in the fourth with Hunter Renfroe’s solo home run to make the score 7-1.

But Blanco put the snakes further up, scoring on an error in Arizona’s half of the fourth.  Daniel Descalso singled to score another pair.  The Dbacks reached double digits, now up 10-1.

Renfroe seemed to be the only one on the Padres that cared tonight.  He tried to breathe life into the Friars with his second home run of the night in the ninth, but the Padres forfeited game one 10-2.

Game two is tomorrow night at 6:40 p.m.  Luis Perdomo starts against Zack Greinke for Arizona.
