September 16, 2017 (Denver) - We know it’s September and the Padres have zero shot of catching the Rockies or any of the other teams ahead of them in the NL West, but they could at least make some effort and finish the season strong. They’d try tonight with Jordan Lyles on the mound against Denver native Kyle Freeland for the Rockies.

They didn't hear us.  Colorado struck for a five-run third.  Charlie Blackmon hit a ground-rule double to score Jonathan Lucroy, D.J. LeMahieu scored him with an RBI single, Nolan Arenado singled to score him and Trevor Story hit a two-RBI single and the Rockies led 5-0.

Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the fifth j to add two to increase the Rox lead to 7-0.

Blackmon struck for three again in the sixth with a three-run blast to get the Rockies to double digits for a 10-0 lead.

The Padre abuse continued and Catholic Charities of San Diego was nowhere to be found.  Luis Torrens gave up a passed ball in the seventh that allowed Raimel Tapia to score.  Lucroy hit an RBI single to score Gerardo Parra and Pat Valaika topped it all off with a grand slam and the Rockies delivered a physical beating to the Padres just like the Twins, winning 16-0 and winning the series.

Tomorrow’s finale is at 12:10 p.m.  Jhoulys Chacin starts against Jon Gray for the Rockies.
