May 2, 2017 (San Diego) - After a day off, the Padres started May at home against the NL West-leading Colorado Rockies.  Tyler Chatwood started on the mound for Colorado against Trevor Cahill.

It was sort of classic Padres; Ian Desmond stole second in the second and scored on a throwing error by Austin Hedges, giving the Rockies a 1-0 lead.

Manuel Margot fixed that problem in the sixth with a triple that scored Cahill and tied the game at one.  Wil Myers gave the Padres a lead with a double that sent in Margot and it was 2-1.  Yangervis Solarte capped it off with a two-run homer and in a surprise to everyone, the Padres were on top of the first place Rockies 4-1.  Ryan Schimpf homered to make it 5-1.

Cory Spangenberg singled in the seventh and scored a run and increased the lead to 6-1.

The Rockies started a rally in the eighth with Nolan Arenado’s single.  Hedges couldn’t make the play at the plate and Alexi Amarista came home, but that was all the rallying they’d do and the Padres took game one with a score of 6-2.

Game two is tomorrow at 7:10 p.m.  Antonio Senzatela starts for Colorado against Jered Weaver.
