April 21, 2017 (San Diego) - The Padres had probably their first good series of the season against the Diamondbacks.  They left and now the Padres face another NL East team, the Miami Marlins, for their weekend series.  Adam Conley started game one for the fish against Trevor Cahill for the Padres.

Manuel Margot started the game with the bang.  On the second pitch thrown by Conley, he knocked it into right for a triple. Erick Aybar scored him with a sac fly and the Padres led 1-0.

But even though the Padres’ “score early” strategy seemed different this time, it still failed when Marcell Ozuna hit a solo homer in the second to tie the game at one.

The game patterned game two against the Diamondbacks a few nights ago.  After we were knotted at one for a while, Wil Myers grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to score Luis Sardinas and the Friars led 2-1.  Austin Hedges put the cherry on top with his fourth home run of the year, a three-run bomb off the Western Metal Supply Building and the Padres jumped to a 5-1 lead.

Brad Hand gave up a two-run homer to Giancarlo Stanton, his fifth of the year, in the ninth, but the Padres take game one against the Marlins 5-3 to win their third in a row.

Game two is tomorrow at 5:40 p.m.  Former Padre Dan Straily starts for the Marlins against Jered Weaver for the Padres.
