September 17, 2017 (Denver) - Well, we’re not going to bother saying what we always say when the Padres get shut out.  Let’s just skip ahead to today.  Jhoulys Chacin started against Jon Gray for the Rockies.

The Padres waited until the fourth to bomb.  The Rockies threatened and Gerardo Parra finished the job with a single to center that scored Carlos Gonzalez.  Trevor Story hit a two-RBI double to give the Rockies a 3-0 lead before the rain started to pour and for once, we aren’t talking about runs against the Padres; we had a rain delay.

After the delay, the Padres decided to make a difference.  Yangervis Solarte hit a solo homer to put the good guys on the board in the sixth, still trailing 3-1.

But things changed in the eighth.  Hector Sanchez hit a game-tying two-RBI single and the Padres finally started to show some life.

And the CPR worked.  In the ninth, Austin Hedges grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Matt Szczur to score.  The Padres beat the Rockies 4-3 and avoided the sweep by the hair on their necks.

The Padres continue their annual end-of-season torture from the NL West as they head home for a three game series starting tomorrow night with Arizona.  First pitch is at 7:10 p.m.  Patrick Corbin will start for the Dbacks against Luis Perdomo.
