June 24, 2018 (San Francisco) - The Padres are 1-2 in this series with the Giants.  They looked to split today with Eric Lauer on the mound against Dereck Rodriguez for the Giants.

It was a good start.  Manuel Margot kicked off the game with a leadoff home run to left in the first to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.

Things were fine until the sixth when Gorkys Hernandez tied up the game on a homer that just just jumped over the left field wall.  Thanks to him, nine innings wasn’t enough and we were headed to extras.

Cory Spangenberg broke through the ice in the 11th with a bouncing single to right that scored Margot and the Padres were able to take a 2-1 win.

Brad Hand felt this was unacceptable and uncharacteristic of the Padres.  “It just doesn’t represent what being a Padre is all about,” he said.  So, in the bottom of the 11th, he loaded the bases and Hunter Pence lined a two-RBI double to right and the Giants took the series 3-1 with a 3-2 win.

The Padres head to Texas for an interleague series with the Rangers.  First pitch tomorrow is at 5:05 p.m.  Joey Lucchesi starts against Rancho Bernardo High alum Cole Hamels.
