Ninth Circuit: Second Amendment Secures Right to Carry Guns in Public

In today's Young v. Hawaii, a Ninth Circuit panel holds... that the Second Amendment secures a right to carry guns openly in public places. The Supreme Court has stated that carrying can be banned in some "sensitive places such as schools and government buildings," so any right to carry would not be unlimited; but it would apply to carrying a gun in one's car, on most streets, and the like. The court also leaves open the possibility that the underlying right is just a right to some form of carry, so that a state may choose whether to allow open carry or concealed carry …

Former GOP governor calls on fellow Republicans to demand Trump’s resignation (The Hill)

Former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R) is calling on her fellow Republicans to demand President Trump’s resignation. In a Los Angeles Times op-ed, Whitman called Trump’s behavior “indefensible” and said he should rename his “America First” platform “Russia First.”…Whitman, who also served as former President George W. Bush’s EPA administrator, has been highly critical of Trump’s actions at his press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

CNN airs audio of Trump, Cohen discussing payment tied to former Playboy model (The Hill)

he conversation confirms earlier reports that the men discussed buying the rights to the story of former Playboy model Karen McDougal's alleged affair with Trump. McDougal sold her story to American Media Inc., the publisher of the National Enquirer. The discussion took place in September 2016, in the lead-up to the presidential election.

Trump-ally congressmen introduce impeachment resolution against Deputy AG Rosenstein (CNN)

House Freedom Caucus leaders Reps. Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan on Wednesday escalated their fight with the Justice Department, introducing a resolution to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The resolution is not a sign that the House is about to vote to impeach Rosenstein, as House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte and House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy -- who have been pushing for documents from the Justice Department -- did not sign on.
