August 22, 2016 (Otay Mesa) – The Sheriff has issued an alert asking for public help to locate an inmate who escaped from a prison in Otay Mesa over the weekend.

Be on the lookout for Demetrius B. Robertson, who was discovered missing Sunday from Facility Eight next to the George Bailey Detention Facility.  10 News reports that is footsteps were traced to the U.S. Olympic Training Center. He may have been picked up at a nearby park.

Both prisons were placed on lockdown, and deputies searched in vain for the 24-year-old inmate by ground and air through the night with help from U.S. Border Patrol agents. According to authorities, only inmates classified as 'low-medium security' are housed at Facility Eight.

A checkpoint also was set up to search vehicles being driven out of the area, and the San Diego County Fugitive Task Force searched areas that Robertson has been known to frequent, including Chollas View, Chula Vista and College Grove.

Robertson was arrested in May on a parole violation. He is African-American with black hair and brown eyes, 5-feet-9-inches tall, weighing about 195-pounds. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and a baseball cap.

If you see Robertson, do not approach him.  Call 911.  You can also provide tips anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477, and you could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
