Deborah Gibney Receives Probation, Fine

February 17, 2010 -- Fallbrook resident Deborah Gibney has pleaded guilty to violating the County of San Diego’s Social Host Ordinance. The guilty plea stemmed from an underage drinking party Gibney hosted in June of 2009.

San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Fallbrook Hospital on the night of June 9, 2009. The hospital staff reported an extremely intoxicated female juvenile was brought into the emergency room by Gibney. Deputies contacted Gibney in the emergency room.

According to the Sheriff's Department, Gibney gave deputies a false story and was subsequently arrested after trying to leave. A subsequent investigation revealed Gibney had hosted a party in which several underage kids had been drinking to the point of becoming ill. Deputies responded to Gibney’s residence and found widespread underage consumption of alcohol.

Gibney was charged with violating the County of San Diego Social Host Ordinance and the case was sent to the District Attorney’s Office. DDA Robert Eacret worked with Sheriff’s Detective Jim Pucillo to conduct interviews and prosecute this case. After several delays, Gibney pleaded guilty.

Gibney received 3 years probation and a fine of $300.00. She must take parenting classes and attend a MADD Victim Panel.

Sheriff Bill Gore stated, “I’m pleased with the outcome of this case and the collaboration between the District Attorney’s Office and the Fallbrook Substation. The successful prosecution of Deborah Gibney sends a message to those who are thinking about hosting an underage drinking party. Don’t!”
